Evaluation of antibacterial activity of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia against Ralstonia solanacearum under different application conditions

Abstract: Both SA and peat-moss as an organic carrier enhanced the antibacterial efficiency of the biocontrol agent. Application of Sten. maltophilia is more suitable under alkaline soil conditions.

“…Pinto, 3–5 leaves/seedling), cultivated in pots under controlled greenhouse conditions (28–30 °C, 75–85% RH, 16 h light/8 h dark) were used for the bioassay test. Soil was infested with equal volumes of the mentioned mixture of virulent strains . The ratio of inoculums/soil was 1:10 (v/w).…”

“…Cultivation of resistant cultivars could be a solution, although there are no resistant cultivars available . The use of both Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and salicylic acid as biotic and abiotic elicitors for improving plant immune response proved to have a suppressive effect on the dominant race of R. solanacearum in Egypt under greenhouse conditions .…”

“…Induction of PRs has been found in many plant species belonging to various families, suggestive of a key role for these proteins in adaptation to biotic stress conditions and responsible for the state of SAR (Kombrink and Somssich 1997). Some of PR genes, such as PR1, PR2, and PR5, serve as robust markers for this systemic immune response (Elhalag et al 2016). The expression of pathogenesis-related protein encoded for proteases (PR Fig.…”

“…First, both genes are related to the defense of tomato against Botrytis cinerea and Alternaria alternata [48]; second, they are related to the protection of grapevine against B. cinerea [49]. On the other hand, Stenotrophomonas species have induced PR proteins in potato, thus decreasing the severity of Ralstonia solanacearum [50].…”
