Evaluation of the Adsorption Capacity of Banana Peel in the Removal of Emerging Contaminants present in Aqueous Media – Study based on Factorial Design

Abstract: A simple procedure was developed with the adsorption of the compounds estrone (E1), 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in aqueous solutions using banana peel as an adsorbent material. Adsorbent mass, contact time, and granulometry were studied through multivariate design. The proposed adsorbent was advantageous, with removal exceeding 80% for E1 and EE2 and 70% for SMX in the analysed samples.
