Examining the Boundaries of Ethical Leadership: The Harmful Effect of Co-worker Social Undermining on Disengagement and Employee Attitudes

Abstract: In recent years, scholars have sought to investigate the impact that ethical leaders can have within organisations. Yet, only a few theoretical perspectives have been adopted to explain how ethical leaders influence subordinate outcomes. This study therefore draws on social rules theory (SRT) to extend our understanding of the mechanisms linking ethical leadership to employee attitudes. We argue that ethical leaders reduce disengagement, which in turn promotes higher levels of job satisfaction and organisation… Show more

“…The GSEM (generalized structural equation modelling) function in STATA 16 was used to identify a final model reflecting a network of causal relationships between motivations, ceremony characteristics, additional supports, wellbeing, and mental health outcomes. GSEM combines generalized linear models and structural equation modeling, to enable simultaneous consideration of direct and indirect effects of interacting factors resulting in a high predictive ability ( Lombardi et al, 2017 ; Mostafa et al, 2020 ). The model was selected by iteratively adding or removing links to an initial model based on linear model results, theoretical justification, path coefficients significance and minimum information criteria ( Tusa et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Organizations that want to maximize the value of their intangible assets by increasing the use and retention of workers’ expertise and information via KS would benefit the organization in long run. EL is also being studied in a new way, as earlier research has focused on the qualities and personality traits of leaders without taking into account the effect of follower traits that learned from the leader ( Sharif and Scandura, 2014 ; Karim and Nadeem, 2019 ; Mostafa et al, 2021 ). This study has the importance in Yarn production sector in Pakistan.…”

“…The influence of the servant style of leadership on job satisfaction and turnover intention is investigated by looking at the consecutive mediating effects of employer brand perception ( Bharadwaj et al, 2021 ). The main goal of this study is to investigate and evaluate how servant leadership impacts an individual’s withdrawal cognitions, that is, turnover intentions, by maintaining a positive organizational image as just an employer brand image in the mind of current employees and therefore by creating an environment in which employees support the government they work for Mostafa et al (2021) . Literature reinforces the theory that an employee’s view of a Servant leadership style leads to a variety of critical organizational outcomes, including organizational commitment ( Faraz et al, 2021 ).…”
