Expanding Value Driven Design to Meet Lean Product Service Development

Abstract: The paper presents a discussion about gaps and opportunities for cross-pollination between Value Driven Design and Lean Product Service Development to promote the use of value-driven method and tools since the preliminary design stages. In particular the paper discusses how methods and tools developed in Value Driven Design have the potential to be applied in the preliminary design stage in the context of Lean Product Service Development. The paper concludes by defining a research area on Value Innovation meth… Show more

“…and, separately, goalfunction tree. Twenty two sources that focused on value modeling were included in this research as of January 2019 [3], [12], [16], [20], [31]- [33], [35], [38], [47], [56]- [67]. The set of available literature for GFTs was significantly smaller than for value modeling due to GFT's recent introduction and limited use, predominantly by NASA.…”

“…The twenty-five most frequent words for each literature set are included in Appendix C. From these frequent words lists, the elements of the models were identified. Tables 1 and 2 present the elements, compiled definitions from statements in the sources, and corresponding references for value models [3], [12], [16], [20], [31]- [33], [35], [38], [47], [56]- [67] and GFTs respectively [4], [6], [7], [68]. If a definition was identified in the sources, it appears in Tables 1 and 2.…”

“…Value assessments in PSSs have been the topic of substantial prior research. Here, particularly the work of M. and A. Bertoni and colleagues has been influential (see, e.g., Bertoni et al, 2016Bertoni et al, , 2015Bertoni et al, , 2017. Therefore, the prior work introduced here is based in part on literature studies as well as a selection from the comprehensive account of value assessment metrics for PSSs presented in Bertoni et al (2017).…”
