Experiment for Integrating Dutch 3d Spatial Planning and Bim for Checking Building Permits

Abstract: ABSTRACT:This paper presents a research project in The Netherlands in which several SMEs collaborated to create a 3D model of the National spatial planning information. This 2D information system described in the IMRO data standard holds implicit 3D information that can be used to generate an explicit 3D model. The project realized a proof of concept to generate a 3D spatial planning model. The team used the model to integrate it with several 3D Building Information Models (BIMs) described in the open data sta… Show more

“…The rule checking in our studies has resemblance with some previous work especially with [6] and [22]. The main difference with the work by Brasebin et al [6] is that they work with a simple building model (somewhat simplified, an extruded building footprint) while our studies work with complete BIM models.…”

“…It would be interesting to combine our approach with the BIM models with their use of more formalised rule checking (using the Object Constraint Language, OCL, [23]). The rule checking in van Berlo [22] is proposed to be performed in a BIM environment (using tools such as Solibri Model Checker). This approach requires that the situation plan as well as the digital development plan are converted to a BIM environment (e.g., in the IFC format).…”

“…There is a growing interest to automate the building permit process, as the current process often prolongs the construction time. Information, such as detailed development plans and building permit regulations, are still often handled in paper format or as pdf files [53][54][55]. This can make the process ineffective, both concerning time and cost.…”
