Experimental and Theoretical Studies on Corrosion Inhibition Performance of Phenanthroline for Cast Iron in Acid Solution

Abstract: The corrosion inhibition of cast iron in 1 M HCl by Phenanthroline (Phen) was investigated using potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), surface analysis and theoretical calculations. It is found that Phen exhibits high inhibition activity towards the corrosive action of HCl and its adsorption obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The results showed that inhibition efficiency increases with Phen concentration up to a maximum value of 96% at 1.4 mM, and d… Show more

“…After protonation, dipole moment is 11.67 Debye. The large increase in the value of dipole moment for protonated molecule confirmed its adsorption on metallic surface replacing water molecule [50]. The surface morphology, as observed under SEM, under varying experimental condition are shown in Fig.…”

“…Diversos trabalhos utilizando os índices de reatividade têm sido reportados devido a importância dos pontos de ancoragem para a elucidação do mecanismo de inibição (Al-Amiery et al, 2022; K. Cao et al,, 2022;Idir & Kellou-Kerkouche, 2018;John & Joseph, 2013).…”

“…34 From Table II, the i corr value was significantly declined with increasing the extract content, which indicates that Al becomes more resistant to corrosion. 35 In addition, when the extract concentration increases, the inhibition efficiency improves. The maximum inhibition efficiency is 89.61%, at 2.0 g l −1 of extract.…”
