George Soulié de Morant was consul in China, an expert of China, and later an acupuncturist. He was indeed the first in Europe to build a theoretical discourse, to make reference to Chinese medical texts, but also, to practice acupuncture. The life and work of George Soulié de Morant, eclectic and nonconformist, show how formal and institutional recognition do not always correspond to the social recognition of the value of expertise.

Résumé Alors que, dans le cadre de sa thèse de sociologie, l’auteur venait d’étudier la constitution progressive d’une politique publique d’évocation des Justes par l’État français, elle a reçu plusieurs sollicitations médiatiques, à l’occasion de l’« Hommage de la Nation aux Justes de France », rendu au Panthéon le 18 janvier 2007. Dans cet article, elle revient sur les difficultés que le chercheur peut rencontrer pour diffuser ses conclusions à l’extérieur du monde académique et les moyens qu’il est susceptible de mettre en œuvre pour les surmonter.
