Expression of Adhesion Molecules and Cyclin D1 in Cells of Solid-Pseudopapillary Tumors of the Pancreas

Abstract: Disturbances in the expression of cell adhesion molecules in solid-pseudopapillary tumor cells were detected by immunohistochemical methods. Positive reaction to E-cadherin, catenins, and overexpression of cyclin D1 were found; these changes reflect peculiarities of morphological structure and biological behavior of the studied neoplasms.

“…However, malignancy in SPNs does not correlate with tumor size [22]. Mean tumor size has ranged from 4.7 to 9.5 cm in various studies [5,8,9,12,14,16,18,23]. Tumor size in our resection specimens ranged from 3 to 14 cm with mean size of 9.5 cm.…”

“…Of the 19 resection specimens in our series, cut surface in most cases showed areas of hemorrhage, infarction, necrosis, cystic degeneration and cavitation (spongy appearance). In Dubova et al's series, hemorrhagic foci and bloodfilled cavities were seen in 40% cases [9]. Direct splenic invasion can occur in pancreatic tail SPNs [24].…”

“…Cyclin D1, encoded by the CCND1 gene, is the first cyclin synthesized in G1 phase and function as an initiation factor in the cell cycle. CCND1 is regarded as an oncogene which accelerates G1/S transition, leading to uncontrolled cell proliferation and tumor progression 30 . High CCND1 expression is of great significance in tumors.…”
