Fabrication of an antireflective polymer optical film with subwavelength structures using a roll-to-roll micro-replication process

Abstract: An antireflective optical film with subwavelength structures replicated by use of a roll-to-roll micro-replication process (RMRP) is investigated. Firstly, a single layer of a nanostructure on a polymer film is designed for an antireflection purpose by the finite difference time domain method in the visible light spectrum. Structures of a conical cylinder array, with spatial period of 400 nm, diameter of 200 nm and height of 350 nm, are numerically obtained. Then, such structures are fabricated by RMRP combini… Show more

“…On the other hand, since the FDTD has finite analysis windows, an artificial boundary condition suppressing reflections at the analysis windows is required. In the FDTD simulation, absorbing boundary conditions are needed to truncate the computation domain without reflection [13]. Therefore, the simulation model is designed for singleside etched substrates.…”

“…During the last two decades this knowledge base has been extended to replication of micro-and nanoscale features. A wide range of applications has been explored including microfluidic devices [3,4], diffractive optical elements [5], anti-reflective surfaces [6,7], superhydrophobic surfaces [8][9][10], and functional cell culture substrates [11][12][13][14]. Commercial injection molding is routinely used to replicate features with details down to 150 nm in the case of Blu-Ray discs, while replication demonstrating lateral resolution as low as 5 nm has been demonstrated in research [15][16][17][18][19][20].…”

“…Ultra-precision drum lathes play an important role in machining large-scale microstructured drum molds [4][5][6] which are widely used in roll-to-roll process for mass production of TFT panel films and antireflective polymer optical film etc. [7,8]. These machine tools are required to possess high structural stiffness, load capacity and position accuracy, as well as good damping property and thermal stability in order to maintain long term machining accuracy.…”
