Fabrication of Y-junction Metal Nanowires by AAO Template-assisted AC Electrodeposition

Abstract: In this communication, we report a synthetic approach to fabricate Y-junction Co nanowires and Y-junction Cu nanowires by AC electrodeposition using a hierarchically designed anodized aluminum oxide template. Morphology study showe that diameters of the stems and branches of the Y-junction nanowires were about 40 nm and 20 nm respectively. Structural analysis indicates that Co nanowires had a mixture of face-center-cubic and hexagonal-close-packed structures, whereas Cu nanowires had a face-center-cubic struct… Show more

“…As shown in schematics (Figure 5E(i)), by the introduction of the anodic aluminum oxide (AAO), wellordered 1D nanostructures can be easily obtained using electrodeposition. [78][79][80] Based on structural advantages, mechanical stability, and insulating properties, AAO is used as a template for the electrodeposition of various materials that are difficult to grow anisotropically. Song et al transferred the AAO template on the ITO substrates and electrochemically synthesized Ni nanodots with the AAO template mask.…”

“…Verifying the uniformity of the electrodeposited alloy is necessary, however, especially if a sine waveform is used, because the composition may depend strongly on the electrodeposition potential (Fodor et al, 2002). Such a technique has been proved to be an interesting tool to fabricate not only nanowires or nanotubes but also nanoparticles and magnetic Y-junctions, among others (Duan et al, 2010).…”
