Facades inspection with infrared thermography: cracks evaluation

Abstract: Infrared thermography is an evaluation technique that helps to identify anomalies and can provide information on their incidence and severity. The aim of this study is to apply quantitative thermography to study a case of severe cracks in facade analyzing the evolution of temperatures and Delta-T. The temperature evolution was studied over a day. There was sun incidence occurring during part of the day, allowing to calculate and assess the evolution of the associated temperatures. Thermograms were acquired hou… Show more

“…For example, at larger scales, the TIS-assisted thermography may be used to inspect, image, and monitor subsurface cracks and stressed spots in buildings and bridges (fig. S18) ( 30 ); at smaller scales, with the aid of high-resolution IR microscopy, the TIS may act as functional templates on which biological activities of cells and microbes can be thermally imaged in real time.…”

“…THERMOGRAPHY HAS LONG been used for detection of various faults in civil engineering constructions. The most common applications include identification of thermal bridges on buildings walls (Bianchi et al, 2014;Sfarra et al, 2019), early detection of cracks and other construction defects in buildings, bridges and other concrete and masonry structures (Bauer et al, 2016), moisture damage detection (Guo et al, 2017;Tran et al, 2017) and faults of electrical equipment (Bagavathiappan et al, 2013).…”
