Face recognition using fractal codes

Abstract: In this paper we propose a new method for face recognition using fractal codes. Fractal codes represent local contractive, affine transformations which when iteratively applied to range-domain pairs in an arbitrary initial image result in a fixed point close to a given image. The transformation parameters such as brightness offset, contrast factor, orientation and the address of the corresponding domain for each range are used directly as features in our method. Features of an unknown face image are compared w… Show more

“…The procedure for finding a fractal model for a given image is called encoding, compression, or searching for a fractal image representation. Some of researchers used the fractal codes obtained during the encoding process and applied them to different classifiers [3,4,8,9]. The inherent properties of fractal theory based on the fixed point theorem of Iterated Function Systems have also been exploited by some researchers, called Fractal Transformation.…”

“…The technique has also been used in feature extraction and recognition [6]. Applications such as handwriting recognition [7] and face recognition [8] are some samples. Fractal techniques that are used for image compression has recently been applied in remote recognition of high voltage discharges [9].…”
