Facile Preparation of Porous Carbon Derived from Industrial Biomass Waste as an Efficient CO2 Adsorbent

Abstract: A porous carbon CO 2 adsorbent based on soybean cake (industrial biomass waste) has been successfully prepared by direct carbonation, following KOH activation. The prepared porous carbon adsorbent exhibits efficient CO 2 capture performance with the highest adsorption capacity of 4.19 and 6.61 mmol/g at 298 and 273 K under atmospheric pressure, respectively. Moreover, the porous carbon adsorbent also shows good static CO 2 adsorption capacity at a low pressure (0.15 bar) with an uptake of 1.26 mmol/g and an eq… Show more

“…The experimental data on nitrogen-doped AC or AC adsorbents including 217 data sets were collected from previous 30 publications and then were further utilized to design and test the ML technique, ,,, , which was conducted by exploring different keywords (such as CO 2 capture and CO 2 adsorption combined with biochar, porous ACs, and N-doped ACs). SCOPUS, Web of Science, etc., were utilized as major databases to collect materials from the literature on CO 2 adsorption on ACs.…”

“…For chemical activation, the most commonly used activators include ZnCl 2 , H 3 PO 4 , NaOH, H 2 SO 4 , KOH, and K 2 CO 3 . They can be used to make carbon materials with high surface areas and suitable porous structures 33–36 . The template method, one of the most widely used synthesis techniques for carbon materials, uses a template to effectively control the pore structure and prepare a material with an orderly structure and uniform pore size.…”

“…CO 2 , as a predominant greenhouse gas and a renewable carbon resource, is supposed to be captured and stored effectively owing to global climate change and unreasonable usage of energy. Alkaline amine-based solutions are currently utilized for CO 2 sorption by means of the chemical interaction between basic amino functional groups and acidic CO 2 molecules. , However, the shortages of this traditional method, such as equipment corrosion, chemical instability, and the high energy consumption of regeneration, worry the researchers. , In view of this, various adsorbents have been applied for CO 2 capture with high adsorption capacity. Among them, NDPC is expected to be a promising CO 2 adsorbent because of its wide accessibility and a variety of advantages mentioned before. , As a result, developing a kind of porous carbons, which are suitable for CO 2 capture, is an attractive goal to be pursued.…”
