“…The synthesis and characterization of the HAp were conducted following our previous work. 32 CS and CS/HAp scaffolds were synthesized using a freeze-drying method. In a typical experiment, 1.92 g of CS was dissolved in 96 mL of 2% (v/v) acetic acid for 3 h to obtain 2% (m/v) CS solution.…”

“…The HAp nanoparticles of the present work used as an inorganic component for fabricating CS/HAp scaffolds, produced from eggshells not only have a similar size and shape, but also have a similar composition to biological apatite. 32 The trace elements such as Mg, K, and Na, which were detected in the inorganic component of the CS/HAp scaffolds play a vital role in promoting rapid formation of the bone-like apatite layer on the surface of the CS/HAp scaffolds. Although the HAp nanoparticles used for the scaffold fabrication in previous studies, 49,51 synthesized from chemicals have the closest size and shape to biological apatite, they released bone-like mineral layers on the scaffold's surfaces aer a longer time than the HAp nanoparticles of the present work, which was attributed to the lack of trace elements in their composition.…”

“…9 The morphology and spreading behavior of the synthesized particles can be inuenced by the addition of organic modiers during the precipitation process. Quite a lot of studies in the literature have investigated the behavior of surfactants such as sodium citrate, 10 cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), 11 sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate as organic modiers. 12 Zhang HG et al 13 using glutamic acid as the modulator, prepared mesoporous hydroxyapatite nanoparticles with ribbon-like morphology.…”
