Factor Structure of the Job Stress Questionnaire (JSQ) in Three Occupational Groups

Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to analyze the internal consistency and factorial composition of the Job Stress Questionnaire (JSQ), a perceptual measure of job related stress, and to compare its factor structure across three occupational groups as well as comparing the empirical solutions to the a priori dimensions hypothesized for this scale. The results indicated acceptable reliabilities for three of the four subscales while factor analysis revealed limited support for the factorial validity of the ins… Show more

“…Individuals respond to items using a 7-point Likert-type scale ranging from 1 (never) to 7 (always). The four-factor structure was confirmed in a study conducted by Hamel and Bracken (1986) and was additional support for the contention that job stress is a multidimensional phenomenon. In this study, Cronbach's alphas of .90, .81, .69, and .83 were obtained, respectively, for the Workload, Role Conflict, Role Ambiguity, and Lack of Utilization JSS subscales.…”

“…The job stress variable includes four different types of stressors. It was adopted from Hamel and Bracken's (1986) job stress measures in social entrepreneurship, which was a modification of Caplan et al's (1975) job stress questionnaire. The four items used are: (1) my job requires me to work very hard; (2) I have experienced a large increase in workload; (3) there is a great deal to be done in my job; and (4) my job leaves me with little time to get tasks or works done.…”

“…Menurut Caplan dkk.
