Ferromagnetic resonance study of sputtered Co|Ni multilayers

Abstract: Abstract. We report on room temperature ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) studies of [t Co|2t Ni]×N sputtered films, where 0.1 ≤ t ≤ 0.6 nm. Two series of films were investigated: films with same number of Co|Ni bilayer repeats (N=12), and samples in which the overall magnetic layer thickness is kept constant at 3.6 nm (N=1.2/t). The FMR measurements were conducted with a high frequency broadband coplanar waveguide up to 50 GHz using a flip-chip method. The resonance field and the full width at half maximum were … Show more

“…Note that, for our Co/Ni system, we can simplify the v J expression [19]. Indeed, the damping parameter was measured to α ≈ 0.02 by ferromagnetic resonance (see also reference [31]) which leads to µ 0 H w ≈ 1.5 mT. Thus, in the precessional flow regime, we have α²<<1 and H w <<H, so that v J in Eq.…”

“…We also measured resonance lines on an extended film with the same Co/Ni synthetic layer stack sandwiched between 10 nm Cu on each side. These measurements were conducted with a traditional rf field driven FMR using a flip-chip method [14]. Broader resonance peaks were not found in extended films with t =0.1, 0.2, and 0.3.…”
