Fluorescent Metal–Organic Framework Constructed from Semi-rigid Ligand for the Sensitive Sensing of 2,4,6-Trinitrophenol

Abstract: A Cd(II)-based metal–organic framework as fluorescent chemical sensor, formulated as {[Cd3(bmipia)2]·10DMF·5H2O} n (FCS-2), was synthesized through a hydrothermal process and structurally characterized via X-ray crystallography. FCS-2 represented a new three-dimensional framework assembled from a semi-rigid aromatic carboxylate ligand and exhibited fascinating fluorescence due to the highly crystalline and ordered molecular structure. The emission of FCS-2 could be quenched, interestingly, by the presence of… Show more

“…5 Breathing typically relies on changes in bond angles, but another approach to generating flexibility within a MOF involves the use of semirigid ligands. 6,7 Such linkers generally contain a rigid portion, typically based around a phenyl ring, together with saturated groups that impart some degree of flexibility. The use of these ligands aims to exploit the advantages of both rigid and flexible linkers, producing frameworks that give a structural response to external stimuli but still retain porosity upon activation.…”

“…Among the ligands used, multicarboxylate benzene ligands have been found to be useful bridging ligands in the construction of MOFs owing to the rich variety of their coordination modes (He et al, 2014;You et al, 2018;Yuan et al, 2010). In previous reports, multicarboxylate benzene ligands have been classified as rigid, flexible and semi-rigid (Zhao et al, 2011;Zhang et al, 2018Zhang et al, , 2020. Compared with the large number of MOFs constructed from rigid and flexible ligands, MOFs based on semi-rigid ISSN 2053ISSN -2296 ligands have not been similarly studied (Zhang et al, 2012(Zhang et al, , 2020Zhu et al, 2017;Lama et al, 2010;Liang et al, 2010).…”

As a typical example of a semi-rigid ligand, methylenediisophthalic acid (H 4 MDIP) possesses a flexible -CH 2 -linker and can bend or rotate freely and adopt various connection modes with different metal centres.…”

“…As of now, literature is replete with TNP or TNT sensors by polymeric frameworks. [6][7][8][9][10] However, detection of TNP like mutagenic material inside living organism is still rare which is essential for the safety of ecosystem. This aspect prompted us to design and synthesize different chemosensor towards detection of mutagenic materials.…”
