Food safety assessment in India: modelling enablers

Abstract: Purpose The ever-widening competitive global markets demand food business to demonstrate safe food supplies across the world. The causes of food borne illness are complex to determine and require a careful evaluation of all stages of food supply chain and food safety practices. The purpose of this paper is to systematically investigate the factors responsible for the assessment of food supply chain and evaluation of food safety system in India. “…The safety issues are further divided into food safety standards and food safety management system (FSMS). For the growth of the domestic food retail sector and high-value exports, food safety standard is an essential factor (Unnevehr, 2015; Shukla et al , 2018). Jacxsens et al (2015) classified food safety and quality standards as European Union legislation, Codex Alimentarius standards, private standards and national legislation.…”

“…The MICMAC which means matrix of cross-impact multiplications applied to classification, analysis can be used to capture the pertinent indirect relationship among the various factors of a system (Shukla et al , 2018; Yadav et al , 2019). MICMAC diagram of the concerned factors is prepared based on their dependence and driving power.…”

“…These methods and techniques are listed in Table 6 Table 6 shows that the multi-criteria decision-making techniques are frequently used for modeling the drivers and barriers of the food supply chain. The structural equation modeling is used by many researchers to find the driving and dependence power of variables (Peng et al, 2020;Parashar et al, 2020;Shukla et al, 2018;Ali et al, 2018;Mor et al, 2018;Chaudhuri et al, 2016;Joshi et al, 2009). These techniques give appropriate results, which forms sound basis for academicians and industry practitioners.…”
