“…However, previous studies where whole seedlings were analysed (Brown and Roberts 1972) showed no evidence for vicine catabolism during the seedling stage, further investigations are required to more clearly understand the role of these nitrogen-rich compounds during both the development and germination of faba bean seeds. The implication of these results for the breeding of faba bean cultivars with reduced glucopyranoside contents may not become fully realised until further results identifying more clearly this physiological role within the seed have been completed.…”
