Free radical scavenging actions of virgin coconut oil

Abstract: Natural antioxidants are quite popular in beauty products. In further product development, natural antioxidants are needed from local products of the NTB community. This study aims to optimize the antioxidant activity of local products Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) from Cocos nucifera L. grown in Lombok. This type of research is experimental laboratory research using the DPPH method. VCO was isolated by conventional methods, namely standing and layered filtration. Data were obtained from the results of the UV-Vis s… Show more

“…Test antioxidant quantitative with DPPH Test this started with the preparation of 0.4 mM DPPH in 25 mL methanol. Determination lamda max implemented with scanning Visible wavelength [7] Determination curve raw Scanning Wavelength _ is carried out at 400-500 nm. Quercetin concentrations were used _ to make curve raw is 5,10,20,40,80,160 ppm read at max lambda obtained from scanning long wave with operating time of 38 minutes [8] b.…”

“…The cytotoxic ethanol extract of the stem bark of mentangor (Calophyllum rufigemmatum) has the potential to be developed as a chemopreventive agent compared to the stem extract of Calophyllum rigidum Miq. which has an IC50 value of 1063.17 g/mL which is not toxic to breast cancer cells [12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…At the same time, inhibition of the glucokinase enzyme's thiol group disrupts Adenosine Triphosphate's formation in pancreatic beta cells, causing a decrease in insulin secretion. Based on the mechanism of action of alloxan, salak fruit extract containing saponins and flavonoids is able to provide antioxidant effects by donating electrons to the alloxan radicals formed so as to form more stable alloxan compounds and reduce the danger of alloxan in rat pancreas tissue [20][21][22]. It can be seen from the results of other studies, which showed the antioxidant content in doses of pare fruit extract [23], dragon fruit extract [24], and salak fruit extract combined with sappan wood extract [20].…”
