Fuel Pretreatment Systems in Modern CI Engines

Abstract: The article concerns the possibility of using a fuel pretreatment system in modern compression ignition CI engines, the main task of which is the reduction of toxic emissions in the form of exhaust gases. This fuel pretreatment system consists of a catalytic reactor used in common rail (CR), and a modified fuel atomizer into spiral‒elliptical channels covered with catalytic material. In the system presented here, platinum was the catalyst. The catalyst’s task is to cause the dehydrogenation reaction of paraffi… Show more

“…Despite these recent problems, the automotive industry has experienced tremendous development in the last two decades. It is visible, inter alia, in the improvement of the design of internal combustion engines (ICE) [3][4][5][6][7][8], the existing power supply systems for spark ignition engines [9][10][11][12] and diesel engines [13][14][15][16][17], the production and development of alternative fuels [18][19][20][21][22], and the development of innovative vehicle drives such as hybrid systems [23][24][25][26] or battery electric vehicles (BEV) [27][28][29]. Moreover, very advanced works are underway on the method of changing driving, i.e., development works on fully autonomous vehicles [30][31][32][33][34].…”

“…On the other hand, the issues of exhaust emissions have been widely discussed for many years, as evidenced by previous research [3,8,9]. Currently, the development of internal combustion engines is visible primarily in the improvement of their design [10,11], the improvement of the combustion process in spark-ignition engines [12][13][14][15] and the development of fuel-injection systems in diesel engines [16][17][18][19][20] and exhaust gas-cleaning systems [21][22][23]. One of the directions for reducing exhaust emissions is the use of alternative fuels.…”
