Full-Length Genome Sequence of Japanese Encephalitis Virus Strain FC792, Isolated from Guangxi, China

Abstract: We report here the complete genomic sequence of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) strain FC792, isolated from aborted fetuses of sows which were unimmunized with JEV vaccines in Guangxi Province, southern China. The complete JEV genome of strain FC792 had the highest nucleotide homology (99.7%) and amino acid identity (99.4%) with the sequence of JEV strain SA14-14-2 (GenBank accession number AF315119). Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain FC792 had the closest phylogenetic relationship to the sequence of … Show more

“…Inter-genotypic recombination was also reported by Zhao X., et al (2017), who demonstrated that the virus from fecal isolation (CH-ZXY1) recombined genotypes 1 and 5. Most studies reported that the junction between P1 and P2 was frequency responsiveness for the breakpoint of the HPeV genome 34 (lower panel of Fig. 3 A), and this corresponds with our finding (upper panel of Fig.…”

“…Few seroprevalence data were reported for China, even though the virus was detected in pigs by RT-PCR on several occasions [64,68,69,70,71]. However, in Tibet, three studies reported IgM prevalence levels using capture ELISA ranging from 5% to 33% of the sampled pigs.…”

“…However, there are now several studies showing the replacement of GIII by GI that could negatively modify the effectiveness of current vaccines [113,189,190]. JEV was indeed detected in vaccinated populations in aborted fetuses and stillborn piglets in China [68,70]. The authors warned against a potential lack of effectiveness of the vaccine and suggested that the safety of the SA14-14-2 strain belonging to GIII, which is used for vaccine development in pigs, should be reassessed; The currently available vaccines do not confer full protection against the emerging JEV GV strain [191,192].…”

“…The viral nucleic acid and capsid protein form a nucleocapsid that is surrounded by a host-derived lipid bilayer. The 5′ end of the genomic RNA contains a methylated cap (m7GpppAmp), but it lacks a poly-A tail at the 3′ end [ 17 20 ]. The genomic RNA is ~11 kb in length and contains a single open reading frame (ORF) between two short non-coding regions (NCR) at 5′ and 3′ ends (Fig.…”
