Functional Investigation on Automotive Interior Materials Based on Variable Knitted Structural Parameters

Abstract: With the rapid development of technical textiles, more and more researchers have focused on developing high performance textiles to meet various needs. The automotive industry is a major market for technical textiles. Compared to other types of fabric, weft-knitted fabric has good extensibility and elasticity, as well as a hand-feel, and it is gradually becoming the preferred type of interior fabric for automobiles. This paper aims to develop an automotive fabric with good comfort and durability. Sixteen types… Show more

“…One of the most important applications of synthetic cords is in the automotive industry for: interior fabric for automobiles [19], conveyor belts, tire cords and hoses [20][21][22]. The methods of mechanical testing of cords and fibers were widely described in the scientific literature.…”

“…4 Fabrics, produced for cars, might include knitted fabric at 50%, woven fabric at 40%, and leather/plastics at 10%. 3 Both, textile fibers and dyes, could be damaged by the action of sunlight due to UV radiation. 7 To minimize such degradation reaction, stabilizers were added to the polymer in the form of UV absorbers.…”

“…2 One of the largest markets for technical textiles is the automobile industry, which uses on an average of 20 kg for each of the 45 million or so cars produced globally each year. 3,4 The automotive interior fabric properties are a function of different variables such as fiber type, yarn construction, fabric weight, fabric structure and type of finishing. The properties of polyester and polyamide make it an ideal material for automotive industry due to their abrasion and UV resistance.…”
