Game Theory Framework for MAC Parameter Optimization in Energy-Delay Constrained Sensor Networks

Abstract: Optimizing energy consumption and end-to-end (e2e) packet delay in energy-constrained, delay-sensitive wireless sensor networks is a conflicting multi-objective optimization problem. We investigate the problem from a game theory perspective, where the two optimization objectives are considered as game players. The cost model of each player is mapped through a generalized optimization framework onto protocol specific MAC parameters. From the optimization framework, a game is first defined by the Nash Bargaining… Show more

“…An optimization framework is proposed to reduce energy waste for the most power-hungry network nodes in this context. Studies conducted by [ 42 ] allow adjustable system parameters to be set to achieve a fair equilibrium point that minimizes system latency and energy consumption by two times. As an illustration, this formulation was applied to six recent wireless sensor network (WSN) MAC protocols.…”

“…delta) and a mechanism that is triggered by a player´s defection can sustain cooperation among players. This cooperation can be enforced using "delta" within the model as the probability that the game associated with that model will proceed for another stage [26]. These results based on PD games with discount factor are pertinent for modelling and studying MEC scenarios (see 2.2).…”

“…I N recent years there has been a growing interest in de-ploying Internet of Things (IoT) platforms in various fields such as agriculture, wildlife tracking, tracking people or air pollution monitoring [1], [2], [3], [4]. A large part of the research and published literature has focused on communication protocols and the reduction of energy consumption, as well as the transmission of data to repositories where this information is analyzed [5], [6], [7], while less attention has been paid to the quality of the data received [4], [8].…”
