Gastric metastasis of bilateral breast cancer

Abstract: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women. The most frequent metastatic sites are lung, bone, liver and brain. On the other hand, gastric metastases are rare. Synchronous bilateral breast cancer (SBBC) occurs rarely. Lobular carcinoma is the histological type most often associated with bilateral breast carcinomas and gastric metastases. We made a retrospective study including four patients followed in the Salah Azaiez Institute, for a bilateral breast cancer with gastric metastases. We analyzed the … Show more

“…Detailed immunohistochemically analysis is the only relevant method for distinction between metastatic and primary gastric carcinoma, taking into account that metastases of lobular cancer generally keep approximately the same receptor status as the primary breast carcinoma (50)(51)(52).…”

“…Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common, lethal neoplasms of the human digestive system and is the second most frequent cause of cancer-associated death worldwide ( 1 ). The highly aggressive advanced GC promotes distant metastasis, with typical metastatic sites being the lungs, liver and bones ( 2 ). Angiogenesis mostly be essential for nourishing the primary tumor ( 3 ).…”

M e t a s t a s e s t o t h e gastrointestinal tract are rare and do not exceed 5% of the cases [3] with the stomach being the most frequent metastatic site [4,5]. Although gastric metastases from primary gynecological tumors are scarce, those from breast cancers seem to be more frequent than those from the ABSTRACT Breast cancer metastases to the gastrointestinal tract are rare, with a median time interval from the diagnosis of the primary tumor to metastasis up to 7 years.…”

Lobular carcinoma of the breast has more affinity to the gastrointestinal tract than the other types [4], with an incidence of 4.5% compared to 0.2% in ductal carcinoma [7].
