Generalized Synthesis of Ternary Sulfide Hollow Structures with Enhanced Photocatalytic Performance for Degradation and Hydrogen Evolution

Abstract: A series of ternary sulfide hollow structures have been successfully prepared by a facile glutathione (GSH)-assisted one-step hydrothermal route, where GSH acts as the source of sulfur and bubble template. We demonstrate the feasibility and versatility of this in situ gas-bubble template strategy by the fabrication of novel hollow structures of MInS (M = Cd, Zn, Ca, Mg, and Mn). Interestingly, with the reaction time varying, the hierarchical CdInS microspheres with controlled internal structures can be regulat… Show more

“…Moreover, the catalytic activity is mainly from the edge sites rather than the basal sites, which result in lower catalytic efficiency. As we know, hollow micro‐nanostructured metal sulfides show overwhelming advantages in many fields for its high specific area, distinguishable interior voids and low density . However, to the best of our knowledge, the synthesis of MoS 2 based hollow microsphere has not yet explored.…”

“…Moreover, hollow‐structured nanomaterials have aroused great attention in photocatalytis because of their improved light‐harvesting capabilities for multiple light reflection, superior mass transfer properties, and considerable reactive sites . Hu and coworkers have synthesized hollow CdIn 2 S 4 spheres with enhanced photocatalytic activity higher than their solid structures due to the effect of porous structure, specific surface area, and light scattering . An ultrathin nanosheet‐assembled Bi 2 MoO 6 hollow framework was found to have better photocatalytic water oxidation performance .…”

“…[ 78 , 79 ] For example, Hu and co‐workers synthesized a series of ternary sulfide hollow structural materials using the chemical reaction bubble template method (Figure 4c ). [ 80 ] Glutathione (GSH) as the source of bubble template could coordinate with metal ions M (such as Cd 2+ , Zn 2+ , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , and Mn 2+ ) and In 3+ through strong coordination to form complexes. MIn 2 S 4 crystals were obtained through a further pyrolysis process, and driven by surface energy, the as‐synthesized MIn 2 S 4 crystals grew on the CO 2 and NH 3 bubbles which were released by pyrolysis, and finally ternary sulfide hollow structural materials were synthesized.…”
