Generating Test Cases for a Timed I/O Automaton Model

Abstract: Recently various real-time communication protocols have been proposed. In this paper, first, we propose a timed I/O automaton model so that we can simply specify such real-time protocols. The proposed model can handle not only time but also data values. Then, we propose a conformance testing method for the model. In order to trace a test sequence (I/O sequence) on the timed I/O automaton model, we need to execute each I/O action in the test sequence at an adequate execution timing which satisfies all timing co… Show more

“…Since the exact timing of the clock part at which the IUT responds with outputs remains unknown, such uncertainty is modeled as a non-deterministic FSM. In [34], the authors propose a similar timed I/O automaton model with data values. In order to trace a test sequence (I/O sequence) on the timed I/O automaton, we need to execute all I/O actions in the test sequence at adequate execution timing which satisfy all timing constraints in the test sequence.…”

“…Also their output timing affects the executable timing for the succeeding I/O actions in the test sequence. The authors of [34] propose a method for generating an executable timing of each input action in a test sequence independently of its preceding output actions' timing.…”

“…On the other hand, a lot of works on model based testing is based on TA or their extensions e.g. [15], [16], [17], [21], [24], [26], [28], [31], [32], [33], [34], [35], [36], [40], [41], [42], [45]; and there exist many tools for testing real-time systems based on TA more then ten years e.g. [24], [31], [36], and [40].…”
