Genetic determination of tuberculin hypersensitivity in chicken inbred lines

Abstract: Genetic determination of tuberculin hypersensitivity 545 I wish to acknowledge the excellent technical assistance from Ms.E. Johnston and expert secretarial assistance from Ms. D. Sutherland.A dominant inheritance of the ability of CB line chickens t o react t o tuberculin over the inability of the WB line t o develop this type of immune reaction was observed. The tuberculin reactivity in this line seems to be determined by one locus and is associated with the B locus. The involvement of the B locus in the regu… Show more

“…Similar associations between the B complex and immune response have been reported for the dinitrophenyl group conjugated to chicken IgG (Balcarov/t et al 1974), for the synthetic polypeptides (T,G)-A--L (Giinther et al 1974;Balcarov/t et al 1975) and GAT 1~ (Benedict et al 1975), and for tuberculin (Karakoz et al 1974). But, so far, specific Ir genes have not been demonstrated in chickens.…”

“…Also, B 21 has been associated with increased antibody production to SRBC (Martin et al, 1990). Chickens with the B 13 haplotype were shown to have greater hypersensitivity to purified protein derivative of tuberculin than those with Bi (Karakoz et al, 1974). No other haplotypes were compared in the tuberculin study, however, so the relative merit of other haplotypes is not known.…”

“…It has been suggested that Ir-Uke genes analogous to those which have been studied so extensively in the mouse, also exist in the chicken. An association between the MHC and the antibody response to the following synthetic polypeptides has Guenther et al, 1974), GAT and G-A (Pevzner et al, 1978), bovine serum albumin (BSA) coupled with aggregated GAT (Benedict et al, 1977), and GT (Koch and Simonsen, 1977); Salmonella pullorum bacterium (Pevzner et cd., 1975) and the development of tuberculin hypersensitivity (Karakoz et al, 1974). …”
