Abstract: These results suggest that genetic polymorphisms of xenobiotic metabolising enzymes appear to influence susceptibility to childhood ALL.

“…The association of ''unfavorable'' CYP1A1 alleles and GSTM1 null genotype with high leukemia risk has also been reported for acute leukemia [21,50]. Apparently, carriers of this genotype are more sensitive to carcinogenic environmental impacts.…”

“…Fifteen studies [30][31][32]35,37,40,[58][59][60][61][62][63][64] have examined the relationship between GSTM1 and GSTT1 and ALL risk ( Table S2). Five of the studies reported a statistically significant increased risk associated with GSTM1 deletion.…”

“…Of the three studies 60,61,67 which evaluated CYP1A1*2B (A4889G) as a risk factor, one study showed a significant association between the A4889G and increased risk (Online Supplementary Figure S1; Online Supplementary Table S2). Pooled data from the three studies, however, provided no evidence for relationship between CYP1A1*2B genotype and risk ( Table 2).…”
