Geroprotective potential of in vitro bioactive compounds isolated from yarrow (Achilleae millefolii L.) cell cultures

Abstract: Introduction. There is an urgent need for geroprotectors that prevent premature aging, especially antioxidants of plant origin. Due to the shortage of medicinal plant materials, scientists look for alternative sources of bioactive compounds of phenolic nature, for example, cell cultures and organs of higher plants. This paper describes a study of the geroprotective potential of in vitro bioactive compounds isolated from yarrow (Achilleae millefolii L.) cell cultures. Study objects and methods. “…In Russia, 60-plusers made up more than a quarter of the population in 2018. By 2050, this figure will reach 31.2% [ 3 ]. As cell damage accumulates and defense stress responses weaken, cellular senescence manifests itself as mild systemic inflammation and oxidative stress.…”

The available treatments are only effective in relieving symptoms and can cause severe and fatal side effects in older people [15][16][17][18][19]. Control of OA symptoms includes oral or local administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or intra-articular injections of corticosteroids [20][21][22].…”
