Giant Lipoma in the Fronto-Temporo-Parietal Region in an Adult Man: Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract: Lipoma belongs to a group of benign mesenchymal tumors. It is in the form of soft masses of adipose tissue encapsulated by a thin layer of fibrous tissue and usually localized subcutaneously. The tumor most often appears in the upper part of the body. Lipomas tend to grow slowly and are small (less than 5cm) lesions. Larger tumors are rare. In this article, we present the case of a patient with a giant head lipoma in the fronto-temporo-parietal region. Both tumor size and location are unique and no such case h… Show more

“…Invasion of the tongue leads to the occurrence of megatongue [17] . Madelung's disease also involves the peripheral nervous system, manifested as limb weakness, and there have been a few reports of central nervous system involvement [18] . Madelung's disease is often associated with other diseases, such as liver disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, hyperuricemia, abnormal renal function, hypothyroidism, and obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome [19] .…”

“…Rarely do these tumors show malignant changes and transform to liposarcoma. Notably, lipomas in the interscapular region, retroperitoneal region and those originating from the posterior surface of thigh tend towards malignancy (2). Here we present a case report of a 65-yearold patient with a huge lipoma in the head along with review of literature.…”

“…Lipomas are one of the most common benign tumors and occur on any part of the body surface. Most lipomas develop in situ and describe small size, but a few grow into large lipomas with a diameter of more than 10 cm or overweight 1000 g. 1 Infiltrating lipoma is a rare tumor that was first reported by Howard and Helwig 2 in 1960. Infiltrating lipomas generally account for 5–17% of lipoma with fat and vascular components, and are capable of capsule or local infiltration of muscular tissue.…”
