“…These requirements lead to a spherical mirror with the properties as listed in Since a self-supporting mirror shell made from a single piece was ruled out, we have developed and constructed, together with DSS 1 , a mirror with a segmented substrate shell and a six-fold radial support structure with spokes matched to the coil cases of the superconducting magnet. As substrate material we have chosen glassy Carbon, an isotropic and homogeneous material produced by pyrolytic conversion of Phenol type resins [17] and commercially available as Sigradur R from the company HTW 2 . After production, the eighteen substrate panels (3 for each sector) have been individually grinded to 2 mm thickness, polished to the required surface roughness and finally machined to the desired shape.…”

“…According to Dübgen and Popp[13], the specific resistivity of GC (Sigradur Ò G) is approximately 0.004 X cm 3. Features related to passivation or anodic dissolution of tungsten (according to Lantalme and Salmi[5], at about -0.5 V versus Cl 2 / Cl -) and lithium intercalation in BDD at very negative potentials have also been observed in some cases, but will not be discussed here 4.…”

“…Copper films of about 1.3 µm thickness were deposited by magnetron sputtering on a 10 × 20 × 1.85 mm 3 vitreous carbon substrate (Sigradur G [11]). For some samples 5 nm to 30 nm thick, carbide-forming bonding layers of other metals were added at the interface.…”
