Glowbal IP: An Adaptive and Transparent IPv6 Integration in the Internet of Things

Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) requires scalability, extensibility and a transparent integration of multi-technology in order to reach an efficient support for global communications, discovery and look-up, as well as access to services and information. To achieve these goals, it is necessary to enable a homogenous and seamless machine-to-machine (M2M) communication mechanism allowing global access to devices, sensors and smart objects. In this respect, the proposed answer to these technological requirements is c… Show more

“…Perception networks typically got consist of computing, communications and storage capacity of poor awareness via mobile nodes and a combination of static node. Usually use of the existing Internet infrastructure and transmission provide powerful computing, communications and storage services [46][47][48][49]. Now about access control for sensor networks is a closed network and IOT perception layer will have multiple sensor subnets with the mobile users frequently switch between each sensor subnet, existing access control mechanisms are mostly unable to adapt to the complex architecture.…”

“…The IPv6 integration is being reached through 6LoWPAN (Hui and Thubert (2011)) and GLoWBAL IPv6 (Jara et al (2012a)) for emerging IoT resources, but also through IPv6 Addressing Proxies for legacy technologies such as those described from the home and building automation sectors (Jara et al (2013)). …”

“…The second phase enabled a seamless interoperability among the heterogeneous entities. The existing heterogeneous islands of devices were interconnected using IPv6. The integration was established at the connectivity level with solution such as 6LoWPAN (Hui and Thubert (2011)) and GLoWBAL IPv6 (Jara et al (2012a)). …”

“…In an attempt to implement the combined system the major work items consists of the development of a common network protocol and analysis of the feasibility of various routing protocols in both the access and network layers. There are examples of transparent IPv6 integration of IoT [17], but none of them formalize the proposed solution in a single, use-case independent architecture for a combined IoT-ITS purposes.…”
