Goosegrass Resistant to Glyphosate in Brazil

Abstract: -Several cases of herbicide resistance in goosegrass have been confirmed worldwide. Reports of control failures after glyphosate application have been observed, especially in the Midwest region of Paraná State. The objective of this study was to evaluate the existence of goosegrass populations resistant to glyphosate. For this, 25 populations collected in two consecutive seasons (2013/ 2014 and 2014/2015) were sown and grown in greenhouse. Glyphosate dose-response curve experiments were performed using doses… Show more

“…Biotypes that have glyphosate resistance have been selected in crops such as corn, soybeans, and various orchards. In Brazil, glyphosate-resistant biotypes of Conyza bonariensis [31], Conyza canadensis [32,33], Conyza sumatrensis [34], Lolium multiflorum [35,36], Digitaria insularis [9,37], Chloris elata [38], Eleusine indica [39], Amaranthus palmeri [40], and more recently Amaranthus hybridus [41] and Euphorbia heterophylla [42] were identified.…”

“…In this way, a decision was made to use the mathematical calculation through the inverse equation of Streibig 4 (1988), hence C 50 could be calculated according to the proposition of Souza et al (2000). The models used to obtain C 50 were the same ones used in other recent reports cited in the literature (Takano et al, 2016(Takano et al, , 2017.…”

“…Resistant species, such as ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum), horseweed (Conyza spp. ), sourgrass (Digitaria insularis), tall windmill grass (Chloris elata) and, more recently, goosegrass (Eleusine indica) (Takano et al, 2017) have been selected in Brazil. Therefore, the application of herbicides with different mechanisms of action has been necessary in order to prevent and manage this resistance.…”
