Nghiên cứu này được thực hiện nhằm đánh giá lượng phát thải cần đánh đổi để đạt giá trị hiệu quả tài chính trong canh tác ớt và cải xanh dựa trên sự phát thải khí nhà kính và lợi nhuận đạt được. Phương pháp đánh giá vòng đời với cách tiếp cận “cradle-to-gate” và khung đánh giá 100-năm bằng phần mềm MiLCA được sử dụng để ước lượng khí nhà kính phát thải thông qua hoạt động sản xuất vật tư nông nghiệp đầu vào. Mô hình trồng cải xanh phát thải 11.249,7 kg-CO2e ha-1 năm-1, cao hơn mô hình trồng ớt (7.455,5 kg-CO2e ha-1 năm-1). Tuy nhiên, tính trên khối lượng sản phẩm, ớt có mức phát thải cao hơn cải xanh thương phẩm (246,5 kg-CO2e t-1 và 107,4 kg-CO2e t-1). Ở thời điểm nghiên cứu và ước tính cho năm 2022, canh tác ớt đạt lợi nhuận (535,676 ± 101.118 triệu đồng ha-1 năm-1) cao hơn 1,37 lần so với canh tác rau cải xanh (392,386 ± 124.570 triệu đồng ha-1 năm-1). Trong thực tế canh tác, để đạt được 1.000 đồng lợi nhuận, trồng cải xanh đã phát thải 28.67 g-CO2e, cao hơn 2,1 lần so với trồng ớt (13,92 g-CO2e đồng-1).

Probably effective application of fly ash granules for ameliorants on sugarcane has not been meaningful reported in tropical agricultural systems and no exact results have not been established. The experiment was arranged from January 2014 up to May 2015 at IPB Bogor, Indonesia. This study aimed to determine the improvement level of additional fly ash granules as soil ameliorants on peat soil in sugar cane cultivation compared to the application of dolomite. The experiment used a complete randomized block design in sub-optimal peat soil. There were five levels of treatment at 50 kg peat soil weight at polybag as the following: without the addition of ameliorant as control (C0) at pH=4.0; Mixing with fly ash granule at pH 6.0 (C1); Mixing with fly ash granule at pH 7.0 (C2); Mixing with dolomite at pH 7.0 (D1), Mixing with dolomite at pH 6.0 (D2). The fly ash granule and dolomite application at a starting value of pH 6.0 or pH 7.0 exposed reliable impact to maintain the pH value of peat soil at least for one year during the growth of the sugarcane plant biomass until harvest. The application of fly ash granule at the starting value of pH 6.0 showed a better effect on plant growth biomass and was sufficient to ameliorate the peat soil to achieve the optimum sugar yield. More than this application rate would be luxurious, it causes no increase in sugar production.

Rising global demand for palm oil has created environmental pressures related to deforestation, burning, and peat exploitation, which in turn drives increased greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. GHG emissions in oil palm (OP) production are known to vary spatially. However, temporal changes across contrasting management and soil types, are less well studied. This paper quantifies spatiotemporal GHG emissions across contrasting regions, management types, and soil types for the period 1990 to 2019 to assess the potential for reducing emission. The study focusses on Indonesia, as the biggest producer of OP, and in particular on the North Sumatra and Riau provinces, where OP is intensively produced. GHG inventories in 5-year time steps were constructed to investigate the change in drivers of emissions using spatial data, resampled to a 500-m grid. Total GHG emissions were found to have increased in both regions due to expanding OP production. However, results show a reduction in emissions flux from 1.98 to 1.15 Ton Ceq. ha-1 year-1 in North Sumatra and 9.63 to 2.67 Ton Ceq. ha-1 year-1 in Riau over the study period. This reduced flux was linked to the decreased deforestation and burning activities, together with increased biomass increment from lower carbon stock area conversion to OP. In both provinces, smallholder plantations emitted fewer emissions than industrial ones, and production on organic soils resulted in consistently higher emissions than on mineral soils. In North Sumatra, emissions under all management and soil types were found to decrease. In Riau, however, GHG emissions on organic soils regardless of management types, remained high. Our findings emphasise that potential for low-emissions OP production is attainable by reducing emissions per unit area through an improved understanding of GHG emissions spatiotemporal variability and their drivers. These contribute to reinforcing ongoing government regulations and guiding the industry towards low-emission OP productions.
