Growth Inhibition and Apoptosis Induction by (+)-Cyanidan-3-ol in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity of (+)-cyanidan-3-ol (CD-3) in human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (HepG2) and chemopreventive potential against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in Balb/c mice. The HepG2 cell line was treated with CD-3 at various concentrations and the proliferation of the HepG2 cells was measure by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT), sulforhodamine B (SRB) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays. Cell apoptosis was detected by Ho… Show more

“…One such polyphenol, which has attracted a lot of interest in the last few years is (+)-catechin (Fig. 18 At the same time, we reported the growth inhibition and apoptosis induction potential of (+)-catechin against hepatocellular 19 and breast carcinoma. The (+)-catechin is widely distributed in various plants like Camellia sinensis (tea) and Acacia catechu Willd.…”

“…if cells have undergone cell death by apoptosis or necrosis [27]. AO/EB staining was done as per the standardized protocol [28]. Briefly, HepG2 cells (50,000 cells/well) in exponential phase were seeded onto 6-well plates and kept for 24 h incubation.…”
