Hexavalent Chromium Adsorption onto Fire Clay

Abstract: Cr (VI) as an extremely soluble and highly toxic ion is present in effluents of industries and imposes severe health-related problems. The current study aimed to provide information on Cr (VI) adsorption potential of fire clay as an abundant, cost-effective and untried material. Batch adsorption trials of Cr (VI) were performed to investigate the effects of pH, contact time, initial metal ion concentration and the adsorbent dosage. Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models were used to eval… Show more

“…Among developed remediation technologies for heavy metals, including chemical precipitation, ion exchange, adsorption, membrane separation, and electrochemical processes, 6 adsorption is still known as one of the most efficient approaches and many adsorbents have been studied in recent decades. [7][8][9] Among introduced adsorbents, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted considerable research attention due to their highly porous and hollow structure, large specic surface area, light mass density, and capability to establish strong electrostatic interaction with various kinds of pollutant molecules. These features have led to CNTs seeming a very promising candidate for adsorption of various kinds of pollutants from wastewater, including heavy metal ions.…”

“…Wastewater caused by industrial activities might be contained by various chemical compounds in the quantities that can change the quality of water resources. Many of these compounds are organic-based, toxic, and characterized by high stability in the environment (Rahmani et al, 2016). The presence of recalcitrant organic compounds in the environment is undesirable and will create various unpleasant undesirable consequences for all creatures (Baziar et al, 2018a).…”
