High-efficiency CMOS rectifier dedicated for multi-band ambient RF energy harvesting

Abstract: Several rectifier topologies dedicated for radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting have been proposed, but only a few have been reported to be able to harvest RF energy at low input power (LIP) levels. In this paper, we are focusing on fully gate cross-coupled (FGCC) rectifier structure, which gives good performance at LIP levels. In order to get an enough high output DC voltage, a 3-stage FGCC rectifier using low-threshold-voltage (LTV) transistors is designed. According to simulation results, with 850MHz inpu… Show more

“…The performances of RF rectifiers in relevant literature are listed in Table I. The conventional cross coupled rectifier and multistages rectifier using low-threshold-voltage transistors are adopted respectively in [31,32]. Benefiting from the dynamic self-body-biasing technique, the proposed rectifier has the highest PCE.…”

“…Also, the power received is in AC voltage, thus, rectification is necessary to convert the AC voltage to a usable DC voltage. Therefore, the integration of an RF-DC rectifier is essential for the purpose of voltage multiplication and voltage rectification of the received RF power [70].…”

“…Experimental results claim an PCE of 40%. Wang Y et al, (2014).Proposed a radio frequency harvesting scheme using gate cross-coupled (FGCC) rectifier structure to achieve better performance at LIP levels. The 3-stage FGCC rectifier uses small-thresholdvoltage (LTV) transistors so as to maximize the efficiency.…”
