High Expression of Gastrin Receptor Protein in Injured Mucosa of Helicobacter pylori-Positive Gastritis

Abstract: Gastric mucosal injury with H. pylori infection destroys the pH barrier on the foveolar epithelium and may induce GR expression through pH changes.

“…Studies have suggested that H pylori infection stimulates gastrin secretion, leading to an increase in the serum G‐17 level 25,26 . In our study, the serum G‐17 level in H pylori‐ positive group was higher than in the H pylori‐ negative group.…”

“…Studies have suggested that H pylori infection stimulates gastrin secretion, leading to an increase in the serum G-17 level. 25,26 In our study, the serum G-17 level in H pylori-positive group was higher than in the H pylori-negative group. Further, the serum G-17 level in type 1 H pylori-positive group was also higher than in the type 2 H pylori-positive group.…”

“…Ito et al demonstrated that the polyclonal antibody OK-524 recognizes human GR and confirmed the expression of GR in parietal cells, enterochromaffin-like cells, and foveolar epithelium with intestinal metaplasia ( 18 ). Takamura et al demonstrated a significantly high expression of GR in the foveolar epithelium of the regenerating injured mucosa infected with H. pylori ( 23 ). Although this patient had no history of H. pylori infection, immunohistochemical staining of GHP using OK-524 revealed an expression of GR in the focal foveolar epithelium of GHP ( Fig.…”

“…Gastrin itself is important for homeostasis in the intact gastric mucosa, and it has a complex role in gastric carcinogenesis, including the mediation of proliferation, angiogenesis and tissue invasion [193]. The gastrin receptor expression is increased in H. pylori gastritis [194] partly due to an IL1β-induced downregulation of gastrin and histamine levels in the stomach to inhibit acid secretion from parietal cells [115,195,196]. …”
