High prevalence and risk factors associated with latent tuberculous infection in two Colombian prisons

Abstract: Prevalence of TST positivity in prisoners and the ARTI were higher than in the general population, but differed between prisons; it is important to apply a second TST to avoid an overestimation of converters during follow-up.

“…En Colombia, este problema de salud pública se mantiene no solo por el hacinamiento, la alta incidencia de tuberculosis en población privada de la libertad, comorbilidades previas, sin haber recibido atención médica primaria ni ningún tipo de tamizaje antes del ingreso al centro penitenciario, por esto el Ministerio de Protección Social a través del Instituto Nacional de Salud decretó unos lineamientos de obligatorio cumplimiento para hacer seguimiento a los pacientes sintomáticos respiratorios privados de la libertad [26] .
