High-Temperature, High-Pressure Hydrothermal Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Photoluminescent Properties, of K 3[Gd1-xTbxGe3O8(OH)2] (x = 0, 0.3, 0.1, 1).-The title compounds are hydrothermally synthesized from mixtures of KOH, GeO 2, Gd(NO3)3, Tb(NO3)3, and H2O (silver tube, 100 MPa, 400 C, 5 h). They crystallize isostructurally in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with Z = 4. Single crystal XRD results are reported for the end members K 3GdGe3O8(OH)2 and K3TbGe3O8(OH)2. The structure consists of a layered anionic framework built up from GdO 6 octahedra and GeO4 and GeO4H tetrahedra. The compounds are further characterized by IR and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Efficient energy transfer from Gd 3+ to Tb 3+ is revealed by the excitation spectra of K 3[Gd1-xTbxGe3O8 (OH)2] (x = 0.1, 0.3). -(LIU, W.; YANG, M.; JI, Y.; LIU, F.; WANG, Y.; WANG, X.; ZHAO, X.; LIU*, X.; RSC Adv. 4 (2014) 51, 26951-26955, http://dx.doi.org/10.1039/c4ra03048f ; State Key Lab.
