The subject of this research is to provide an overview of the mechanisms and schemes of hoax news spreading. Research is also trying to provide an explanation threat of hoaxes about SARA (Tribe, Religion, Race, and Intergroup) towards the resilience of the Pancasila ideology. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method by describing the results of the 2019 Mastel survey of national hoax outbreaks using the Pancasila ideology approach as a perspective of the study. The results showed that the hoax on the issue of SARA was the second most widely hoax news content received by the public with the popular channels for hoax distribution is social media, with a kind of text messaging. A hoax about SARA is the most frequently accepted hoaxes in the community every day. The scheme of spreading hoax news is by spreading slander to political opponents, excessive branding of leader/figure, fake testimony, irresponsible quotation, and bombastic photos or titles. Hoax news about SARA issues poses a severe threat to Indonesia's unity because triggering controversy, public unrest, sectarian sentiment, intolerance of political instability, and security disturbances.

This study attempts to describe the use of language features in hoaxes to manipulate facts and describe their persuasive power in influencing readers. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. This research data is documented from turnbackhoax.id. This site was chosen because it is one of the most popular hoax repellent sites in Indonesia. Documentation was the method of data collection. Data were collected then classified, organized, and then analyzed using theoretical concepts. Theory used to analyze language manipulation in this research is Barton and Lee's theory of language features and Searle theory of speech acts. Data and analysis are presented in tables with brief descriptions. The results of this study indicates that hoax maker use language features in manipulating facts, those are (1) acronyms and initialisms, (2) word reduction, (3) letters or numbers, (4) stylized/unconventional spelling, (5) emoticons, (6) stylized/unconventional punctuation, and (7) images or photographs. Furthermore, it is found the use of assertive, expressive and directive speech acts to build persuasive power to influence the reader. The results of this study can be used as a reference in seeing the characteristics of language manipulation on hoaxes so that people can maximize the use of their logic and intellectual as a system of verifying information to determine the truth of information, knowing the information is fact or fake, distinguishing an information is a hoax or fact.

Keberadaan hoax di Indonesia ada sejak lama. Perkembangan pesat penggunaan media sosial dan kemudahan pertukaran informasi mempercepat persebaran informasi hoax tersebut. Bahkan, dalam pandemi COVID-19 sekalipun, berita hoax mengenai virus corona dan hal-hal yang berkaitan dengannya tersebar luas di masyarakat. Berikutnya, ketika massa banyak menolak Omnibus Law, pemerintah Indonesia menyatakan bahwa penolakan tersebut disebabkan oleh hoax. Alhasil, ada beberapa orang yang ditangkap dengan menggunakan UU ITE sebagai landasan. Berbagai praktisi dan akademisi hukum mendukung pembuat dan penyebar berita hoax dapat dikriminalisasi, tapi tidak tanpa catatan. Artikel ini melakukan tinjauan hukum secara normatif mengenai kriminalisasi berita hoax. Tinjauan dilakukan memakai teori demokrasi deliberatif. Menggunakan kerangka teori ini, peneliti menemukan bahwa aspek-aspek demokrasi seperti substansi dialog dengan informasi yang akurat tidak terpenuhi akibat berita hoax. Hal ini sejalan dengan kehendak konstitusi Indonesia. Hanya saja, kriminalisasi hoax ini perlu dipastikan tidak disalahgunakan penguasa atau pihak yang lebih lemah untuk mengekang kebebasan berpendapat. Cara yang dapat digunakan untuk mencegahnya adalah dengan menambahkan aturan baru untuk melibatkan pihak ketiga independen dalam sengketa berita hoax yang melibatkan pihak pemerintah atau pejabat pemerintah.
