Hormonal Induction of Lactation in Non-Pregnant Awassi Ewes

Abstract: Summary Five non‐lactating, non‐pregnant Awassi ewes were induced to lactate by the administration of 17 β‐oestradiol‐progesterone for 7 days followed by dexamethasone on days 18 to 20. The hormonal treatment led to udder development and initiated lactation on day 21 in all 5 ewes. Four of the ewes showed lactation performance similar to those of control ewes.
