“…The results of data analysis using Chi Square test, obtained count X2> X2 table (14,249> 3,841), and the coefficient of Chi (Φ) of 0,649, meaning that there is a strong relationship between sanitary conditions and the presence of rats on passenger ships that lean in the Port of Kendari City. This research is in line with research conducted by [19] which states that there is a relationship between ship sanitation variables and the presence of rats on the ship using the chi square test shows the results of p value 0,000 smaller than α: 0.05 then it is stated there is a relationship between ship sanitation and the presence of mice. On ships that have sanitary vessels meet the requirements and there are no signs of the presence of rats or the presence of rats as many as 26 ships, while on ships that have sanitary vessels do not meet the requirements and there are no signs of the presence of rats or the presence of rats as many as 3 ships.…”

The development of sea transportation has led to an increase in the intensity of ship use both for people, goods, and ship departure schedules. The volume of ship departure and arrival has an important role in the transmission of various kinds of insect pests that can potentially cause disease to the crew (ABK) and passengers, both between regions or across countries. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the presence of rats on passenger ships that dock at the Port of Kendari City. This type of research is analytic cross sectional design research. The population in this study is the local passenger ship that docked at the Port in the city of Kendari as many as 44 ships. The sample size of 40 ships was selected using simple random sampling technique. Measurement of temperature and humidity using a hygrothermometer while lighting using a lux meter. Data on sanitation conditions was collected using a marine sanitation checklist sheet. The collected data is then analyzed using the chi square test and the phi coefficient. The results showed that there was a relationship between temperature, humidity and lighting with the presence of rats on the ship, where the value of p <α = 0.05 was obtained. Periodic maintenance and cleaning efforts are needed for lighting and room maintenance facilities so that the temperature, humidity and lighting in the room always meet the requirements and can reduce the potential for rat activity on the ship.

Background: Ship are related to public health because they allow the spread of disease due to public health risk factors, one of which is the presence of vectors that can trigger disease exchange in human. The existence of vectors on board is caused by poor sanitation such as bad hygiene, inadequate lighting and ventilation, bad food storage, and scattered garbage that is not properly disposed of. Objectives: This literature review aims to determine the relationship between ship sanitation factors and the presence of vectors on ship Research Metodes: This study use the literature review method by searching for journals on the google scholar database and one search (2010-2020). The keyword used are "ship sanitation with vector presence", "ship sanitation and presence of vectors" and "ship and vector sanitation". Results: The result obtained on google scholar 150 articles and one search 16 articles where only 11 articles match this study. The result of this study, unqualified ship compartments namely kitchen and warehouse, due to ineligible hygiene, do not have adequate trash cans, and are free of insects and rat. The presence of cockroach vectors tends to be found on passenger ships and the presence of mosquito and mouse vectors tends to be found on cargo ship. Conclusion: The conclusion in this study is that ship sanitation factors are related to the existence of vectors. The advice given is to increase routine ship sanitation checks by the Port Health Office officers.

The spread of infectious diseases globally has been a threat to public health and national economies for many centuries. One of the undeniable sectors that contributed to the spread of disease is maritime transport. This research aimed to examine ship sanitation for controlling and preventing the potential risk of disease transmission. This study used an observational survey method, with a sample of 24 ships that anchored in the port of Kendari by using an accidental sampling technique. Findings from this research revealed that there were ships with high-risk sanitation categories or have unqualified levels of sanitation. The main determinants that contribute to accelerating the global transmission of many infectious diseases on the ship are the sign and presence of vectors. Outbreaks associated with the presence of vectors on board are usually related to inadequate control and sanitation along with insufficient attention to preventing contamination. Therefore, the crewmember on board needs to increase their knowledge through various ship sanitation training, develop sanitation programs and integrate sustainable monitoring and evaluation programs of vectors toimprove sanitation as an effort to prevent risk factors for disease transmission.
