Abstract: Obesity has become a serious problem world-wide. Obesity occurs due to the imbalance of intake and output energy. Thus, it is related with the incidence of insulin resistance and the disruption of glucose metabolism. This study was aimed to obtain the correlation between fasting blood sugar level and obesity in adolescents. This was an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The results showed that the major category of subjects was obese I (38.33%). The highest percentage was normal blood sugar which … Show more

“…Insulin resistance that occured can cause an increase in blood glucose levels (Clare et al, 2007). The results of previous study by Polli et al (2016) added that in a state of obesity there is a decrease in adiponectin and an increase in free fatty acids that are opposite to the effects of insulin, causing a decrease in insulin sensitivity or insulin resistance. Fatty acids and some other metabolic activates protein kinase and break the insulin signaling by increasing serine phosphorylation which is inhibitory of the insulin receptor substrate (IRS), thus causing insulin resistance.…”

“…2 Obesity is a problem all over the world both in developed and developing countries, with prevalence rates increasing so rapidly. 3 Obesity is a dangerous condition, with prevalence of 20% . 4 Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO) (2016) that more than 1.9 billion people aged over 18 years old are overweight and 650 million of them are obese.…”

“…9 Obesity is one of the causes of metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance, resulting in an increase in blood glucose levels. 3,4 In addition, obesity also affects the secretion of Insuline-Like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1). In obesity, hyper-insulinemia due to peripheral insulin resistance binds to Insuline-Like Growth Factor-1 Receptors (IGF-1R), resulting in decreased circulation of Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein-1 (IGFBP-1) resulting in IGF-1 levels free in the blood increases.…”
