The photolysis of azocyclopentane in the presence of cyclopentane-carbon tetrachloride mixtures has been investigated in the gas phase. Product analysis data have been used to determine the Arrhenius parameters for the reactionsThe rate data for chlorine atom abstraction from CC4 by the cyclopentyl radical were compared with available data for other alkyl radicals in both the gas and the solution phases. The results indicate that the rate constant for chlorine atom abstraction in the gas phase is fairly insensitive to the nature of the attacking alkyl radical and that the activation energy for a secondary radical is about 4 kcal/mol higher than the corresponding reaction in the solution phase.c-CsHg. + C c 4 -c-CsHgCl+ CC13. cc13. t c-C~HIO -CC13H + c-CsHg.

The kinetics of the oxidation of N-aminopiperidine with chloramine was studied at different temperatures, with variable concentrations of the two reactants and at a pH ranging between 12 and 13.5. The reaction showed to be involving two steps: the first corresponded to the formation of a diazene intermediate, the second to the evolution of this intermediate into numerous compounds within a complex reactional chain. The rate law of the first step was determined by the Ostwald method and 2 found to be first order with respect to each reactant. The rate constant was determined at pH = 12.89 and T = 25°C: k 2 = 1.15 × 10 5 exp(-39/RT) M -1 s -1 (E 2 in kJ mol -1 )With decreasing pH value, the first step exhibited acid catalysis phenomena, and diazene was converted into azopiperidine particularly faster. This created overlapping UV-absorptions between chloramine and azopiperidine, also observed in HPLC. GC/MS analyses were used to identify some of the numerous by-products formed. Their proportions are dependent of both pH and the reactants' concentrations ratio. A reaction mechanism taking this relationship into account, was suggested.

Entsprechendes gilt fur die Komplexstabilitaten der Neutralliganden (3) und (4)L4].Die Bildung eines Pseudocyclus oder einer Helix wahrend der Komplexierung der schwachen Liganden (3) oder ( 4 ) in Losung kann an der Hochfeldverschiebung der Signale der aromatischen und aliphatischen Protonen im 'H-NMR-Spektrum (CDCI3) abgelesen werden. Erst bei hinreichend langer Kette (sechs CHzCH20-Einheiten) erkennt man die Komplexierung nur noch an der Hochfeldverschiebung fur die aliphatischen CHz-Protonen.Durch das Ergebnis ermutigt, daD die kurzkettigen Oligoethylenglykol-diarylether (3) und ( 4 ) (n 2 1) kristalline Erdalkalimetallion-Komplexe bilden, uberpruften wir auch die Komplexbildung der schon lange bekannten Oligoethylenglykol-dimethylether ( 1 ) (Glyme~)['~. Von ihnen konnten noch keine kristallinen Komplexe mit Alkali-und Erdalkalimetallionen isoliert werden, obwohl dies mehrfach versucht worden war[5'. Es iiberrascht daher, daD wir jetzt rnit Heptaglyme und sogar mit Hexaglyme kristalline Komplexe [mit Ca(SCN)Z und Ba(SCN)2] erhielten, deren Daten in Tabelle 1 aufgefuhrt sind.
