Hydrothermally Fluoritized Ordovician Carbonates as Reservoir Rocks in the Tazhong Area, Centraltarim Basin, Nw China

Abstract: Reservoir rocks at the Tazhong 45 oil pool, central Tarim Basin, consist of fluoritized carbonate strata of Middle -Late Ordovician age. Petrological observations indicate that the fluorite replaces calcite. Several other hydrothermal minerals including pyrite, quartz, sphalerite and chlorite accompany the fluorite. Two generations of fluid inclusions are present in the fluorite. Homogenization temperatures (Th) for primary inclusions are mostly between 260°C and 310°C and represent the temperature of the hydro… Show more

“…Ordovician carbonate rocks suffered strong erosion and karstification, which was conducive to the formation of high‐quality weathering crust reservoir beds (Lin et al ., ; Xu et al ., ; Ji et al ., ; Sun et al ., ). At the same time, volcanic activity in the late Hercynian was strong, and the reservoir beds were strongly affected by hydrothermal activity (Jin et al ., ).…”

“…A 6500-to 9500-m thick sedimentary sequence, consisting of Cambrian to Tertiary strata, rests on an Archaean and Proterozoic crystalline basement. The Lower-Ordovician mainly consists of platform carbonates, and the Middle-Upper Ordovician mainly consists of marginal slope-shelf carbonates (Jin et al, 2006). Reef and shoal facies carbonate reservoirs are developed in the Upper-Ordovician in our studied area.…”
