Hysteresis and Field-Scale Optimization of WAG Injection for Coupled CO2-EOR and Sequestration

Abstract: The effect of relative permeability hysteresis on both CO2 storage and oil recovery has been studied using a compositional simulator. The effects of process parameters such as water-alternating-gas (WAG) ratio and CO2 slug size, and reservoir heterogeneity characteristics such as Dykstra-Parson coefficient and correlation lengths on CO2 storage and tertiary oil recovery were simulated using hysteresis based upon existing correlations. Three different relative permeability and capillary pressure models for thre… Show more

“…Therefore, the total levelized cost for CO 2 recycling for EOR and ECBM projects applied in this study is $6.39/tCO 2 in 2003 dollars ($6.78/tCO 2 in 2005 dollars). This compares quite favorably with estimates found in the literature (KGS 2002, Ghomian et al 2008) which suggest a value of $0.35/mcf ($6.62/tonne) of recycled CO 2 .…”

“…However, in order to obtain a representative simulation of the project, detailed information on the physical and chemical mechanisms that occur during the sequestration process is necessary. Many researchers have used different codes to simulate CO 2 injection and migration [15,18,[21][22][23][24]. In this paper, we extend streamline-based simulation, which can simulate fine-scale geological models to capture reservoir heterogeneity.…”

“…Weyburn oil field is one of the largest oil fields in the United States that carbon dioxide was injected in September 2000. International Journal of Geosciences The injection and production data of last years from various sections of the reservoir were examined by 9 spot model. The production results by the different regions with vertical production and injection wells related to WAG have a good match with the model provided by Kinder Morgan for numerous industrial standard [26]. The carbon dioxide injection thermodynamic criteria were investigated to Ivanic oil field located 35 miles from the capital of Croatia.…”
