“…These include cubenol, elixene, caryophyllene oxide, α-gurjenene and α-farnesene, respectively (Lee et al, 2010;Li et al, 2014;Rajeswari et al, 2011;González et al, 2014;Lavanya et al, 2014;Yang et al, 2014). Epizonarene and santolina epoxide have been reported to exhibit antidiabetic and cardiovascular disorder, respectively (Keskes et al, 2016;Rasheed et al, 2015).…”

“…These features have revealed the potential of α-isocubebene as an effective novel anti-inflammatory agent for the prevention and treatment of vascular diseases. However, the principal biological function of αIC remains unclear, with the exception of the anti-inflammatory effect against bacterial infection or endotoxin recently reported by our group (7). The present study sought to clarify the function of αIC in the context of therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma.…”

“…Fraction 9 (KH9, 4866 mg) was separated on a silica gel column (100 × 3.0 cm) with a step gradient (1%, 10%, and 15%) of acetone in CHCl 3 to obtain 21 fractions. Next, fraction 2 (KH9IG, 529.9 mg) was separated on a silica gel column (100 × 3.0 cm) with 5% acetone in CHCl 3 to yield α-isocubebenol (162.9 mg) as previously described by [5]. Pure α-isocubebenol was identified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on a Luna C18 column (150 × 4.6 mm internal diameter (ID); 5 μm particle size; Phenomenex, LA, CA, USA) with a methanolacetonitrile gradient, at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min.…”

“…Schisandra chinensis and its constituent dibenzo-cycloctadilene lignans have been reported to have anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, hepatoprotective, and neuroprotective effects [1][2][3][4]. Recently, by using bioassay-guided fractionation, we identified a novel α-isocubebenol from the fruits of S. chinensis; this α-iso-cubebenol markedly inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in mouse macrophage RAW264.7 cells [5]. However, the anti-inflammatory signaling pathways involved in the α-iso-cubebenol-induced activation of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in periodontitis and chronic inflammation are not completely understood.…”
