Idiopathic palmoplantar eccrine hidradenitis in children

Abstract: Idiopathic palmoplantar eccrine hidradenitis (IPPH) is a recently described disorder characterized by painful erythematous plantar nodules and in three cases, showed a typical neutrophilic infiltrate around and within the eccrine sweat apparatus. Five cases of IPPH on the soles of the feet in healthy children are reported. The disorder presented after intense physical activity in four cases. The course was benign and self-limiting. Complete bed rest for several days without any medical therapy led to alleviati… Show more

“…Palmoplantar eccrine hidradenitis is a self‐limiting condition characterized by painful, erythematous papules and nodules on the palms and soles. Reported mostly in athletes exposed to repeated trauma, especially on the palms and soles , it has been described after gaming on a PlayStation (Sony, Tokyo, Japan) for several days . The density of eccrine glands at these sites, coupled with alterations in these glands caused by a combination of intense physical activity, sweating, and occlusion, has been postulated to be causative .…”

“…4 Therapy consists of bed rest for a few days, and the benefit of NSAIDs has been described. 1,5 In addition, the use of systemic or topical corticosteroids, antibiotics, and potassium iodide has been proposed; however, without convincing evidence for significant shortening of symptom duration. [6][7][8] The frequent relapses in our patient, which required bed rest each time, had a marked impact on his quality of life.…”
